To build a boat that survives, start with a compact frame around the player, connect it through several paths, add replaceable outside armor, save, and test at ordinary river speed. A huge flat raft can carry many blocks while still failing at the first narrow obstacle or final drop. Shape and load paths matter.
Lay out the core
Mark a short center line on the plot. Build a floor several blocks wide and connect both sides with multiple cross pieces. Place the seat near the center, slightly behind the front half, so the nose can be lost without immediately exposing the player.
Create a seat cage with enough room for the avatar and camera. Protect front, sides, and underside before adding a tall roof. Use the strongest material you own at the seat connections and central spine, not as scattered decoration.
Delete one outside block and inspect whether the remaining frame still connects. If removing a single piece divides the boat, add another structural path before continuing.
Add sacrificial armor
Build a replaceable bumper in front of the structural core. Use common blocks in short layers rather than one long projection. A wedge or angled face can reduce snagging when available, but the bumper should be allowed to break without pulling the spine apart.
Protect the underside for drops and rocks. Side armor should remain inside a practical width so the boat does not catch every wall. Keep the top low enough that the craft is not top-heavy or blocked by overhead geometry.
Leave access to the seat and any control part. A sealed shell is frustrating when you need to repair one connection on mobile.
Balance, steer, and save
Before adding a motor, check that the static boat sits level. Distribute heavy parts around the center rather than at one end. If the live building interface exposes anchor or other properties, confirm the craft is in the correct state for launch.
Add one steering or propulsion system at a time. Put it near the protected frame, align it with the center line, and test at low power. More motors can increase speed while reducing reaction time and making a collision more destructive.
Save a no-motor survival version and a controlled version separately. That gives you a reliable route when an experimental system fails.
Run a four-pass test
Pass one observes natural balance with minimal control. Pass two tests steering through the first narrow route. Pass three tests whether armor protects the seat after repeated contacts. Pass four attempts the full Treasure route with the same design.
After each run, name the first failure and make one change. Reinforce direct damage, lower a roll, narrow a snag, or protect a control. Do not add armor, power, width, and height together; you will not know which change helped.

Adapt for solo and team play
Solo boats should keep every critical part within reach and avoid mechanisms that require another player to activate. A team boat can assign steering, lookout, repair, or weapon roles, but the core should not depend on a teammate’s temporary blocks.
Agree before launch. One player pressing Launch can interrupt another person’s edits. Confirm seats are occupied, loose objects are secured, and quest restrictions are satisfied. If a teammate leaves, inspect ownership-dependent parts before reusing the save.
For passengers, add protected seating without raising the center of mass excessively. Connect the passenger module through multiple points and make sure it does not block the driver’s view.
Repair predictable failures
If the nose breaks immediately, shorten it and layer the connection. If the craft flips after a geyser or drop, lower the roof, move weight down, and widen only the core. If it spins, align propulsion and make left-right mass symmetrical. If it sticks, remove protrusions and reduce width or height.
If a moving part tears off, reinforce the fixed mount rather than covering the moving element. If steering survives but the player dies, improve the seat cage and underside. If everything survives but the route stalls, add control or propulsion after reviewing the current obstacle.
Upgrade without wasting inventory
Replace material only where failure occurs. A complete heavy shell may use scarce blocks and worsen handling. Upgrade the spine, seat mounts, underside, and recurring impact zone first. Keep cheaper panels elsewhere.
Use the Blocks List and Best Blocks to compare source and role. The Scaling Tool can refine dimensions, but remember that enlarged volume can change mass. The Property Tool can alter supported behavior, but collision changes do not automatically prevent obstacle damage.
Final launch checklist
Confirm the build is saved, the seat is protected, both sides connect to the spine, armor does not block controls, propulsion faces the right direction, everyone is ready, and no required quest object is left unsecured. Launch at a speed you can control through the first hazard.
The best first successful boat is often simple enough to repair. Keep it as a baseline even after you build faster vehicles, farms, or mechs.
